Few things sadden me as much as when I hear a woman speak of other women as the category of "desperate housewives". Her tone changes, often with a shift in her look that gives me a felt sense of some repulsion that says, "That's not me" or "I don't want to be this."
There are strong societal images prevalent in our urban world of the "strong self-fulfilled woman" and the "desperate housewife". Power is a theme at the heart of these two images that unexplored appears to women to be a choice of living out one or the other, or especially for the latter - a lack of agency to change things.
